Leslie Gernon is a LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker). She has been providing counseling in the Raleigh area since 2000 in outpatient, in-home and office-based settings. She has experience working with individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and trauma; as well as issues related to grief/loss, identity/self-esteem, life transitions, relationships, stress, and work/life balance. She works with adults (individuals and couples), ages 18 and up.
Leslie integrates her beliefs about wellness of body, mind and spirit as well as her interests in interpersonal communication and nature/ecotherapy. Her own spiritual practices include meditation, mindfulness, and shinrin-yoku (“forest bathing”). She has a passion for helping people with big-change, pivot-points in their lives. Her therapy style incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Focusing techniques; person-centered therapy; and, solution-focused strengths-based counseling. She is also influenced by Buddhism, New Thought Christianity, Quakerism, Taoism and wisdom-lessons taken from life itself.
Leslie has a creative and compassionate approach that honors each person’s story and strengths. She provides emotional support, and introduces new ways of seeing and doing. She believes that everyone has the wisdom to heal and grow inside of them; and, a therapist serves as a guide to find, understand and use different ways of thinking, choosing, acting and speaking to increase psychological flexibility. Clients’ secular and/or spiritual beliefs are welcome as a part of this process.
Leslie graduated from UNC – Chapel Hill with a Masters in Social Work in 1999. She also earned a Masters in Business Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill. She is a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) as well as a trained Nature & Forest Therapy guide and Veriditas labyrinth facilitator.
